Achilleas
Chytas

Research Associate

Achilleas Chytas is an Engineer / Research Associate at the Institute of Applied Biosciences of Centre for Research and Technology Hellas (INAB|CERTH) in Thessaloniki, Greece. He has received a Diploma of Electrical and Computer Engineering as well as a MSc degree in Medical Informatics, both from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTh). Since 2014 as a member of LoMI (Laboratory of Medical Informatics, AUTh), he has been part of many European and national R&D projects on Medical Informatics, related with telemonitoring, biomedical big data analytics, drug safety and pharmacovigilance focusing on signal processing and Knowledge Engineering. He has been collaborating with INAB|CERTH as late as 2015 while since 2020 he has been a member of the eHealth Lab.

Dr. Alexandros Rekkas is a Research Associate / Developer at the Institute of Applied Biosciences of the Center for Research and Technology Hellas (INAB|CERTH).  He holds a PhD in Medical Informatics from Erasmus University (Rotterdam, The Netherlands), a MSc in Statistics from KU Leuven (Belgium) and a BSc in  mathematics from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (Greece). His research interests revolve around the study of treatment effect heterogeneity using observational data, with focus on risk-based approaches, and the combination, external validation and transportability of such methods.

Anastasia
Farmaki

Research Associate

Anastasia Farmaki is a clinical pharmacist, currently working as a Research Associate  at the eHealth Lab of the Institute of Applied Biosciences, Centre for Research and Technology Hellas (INAB|CERTH) in Thessaloniki. She obtained her Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, where she graduated with honors. Her thesis focused on the biophysical changes of human hair after treatment with cosmetic products. Continuing her academic journey, Anastasia pursued postgraduate studies in “Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics” at Democritus University of Thrace in Alexandroupolis. Her interest in eHealth was sparked by her thesis, which focused on the integration of pharmacogenomics into clinical practice with the contribution of eHealth. Specifically, her research included a systematic review of pharmacogenomics clinical decision support systems worldwide, as well as identifying the technical challenges and difficulties associated with clinical implementation. Excited by this exploration, after five years of work as a community pharmacist, Anastasia decided to open new horizons and delve into the study and research of eHealth tools serving pharmacovigilance processes. Her experience from daily interactions with patients and discussions about their treatment progress led her to believe that it will help her study personalized eHealth solutions for pharmacovigilance.

Christos
Timamopoulos

Research Associate

Christos is a Research Associate, Programmer, and Data Analyst at the Institute of Applied Biosciences, Center for Research and Technology Hellas (INAB|CERTH). He holds a bachelor’s degree in Applied Informatics from the University of Macedonia, where he graduated in the top 10% of his class, and a Master’s degree in Data Science from the International Hellenic University. His master’s thesis on anomaly detection in real-world data showcases his ability to tackle complex data challenges.

At INAB|CERTH, Christos works on developing applications for healthcare companies and research projects, with a focus on data analysis and software development to support biomedical research and improve healthcare outcomes.

Kalliopi
Kastampolidou

Research Associate

Dr. Kalliopi Kastampolidou is a versatile Research Scientist at the eHealth Lab of INAB|CERTH. With a background in Computer Science and a Ph.D. from Ionian University, her academic journey has evolved from Quantum Computation to an exploration of healthcare informatics.

Transitioning seamlessly into the realm of healthcare, Kalliopi now focuses on Knowledge Engineering, Machine Learning and Semantic Web technologies, applying her skills in artificial intelligence and data integration to unravel insights from complex biomedical datasets. Proficient in semantic technologies such as RDF and OWL, as well as SQL query languages like SPARQL and MySQL, she brings a comprehensive understanding of data modeling and management to her work. Additionally, her expertise extends to programming languages like Java, C/C++, Python and PHP.

Actively participating in projects such as the “Hellenic registry of patients with home mechanical ventilation” (HR-HMV) and smartHEALTH, Kalliopi also contributes to the authoring of scientific proposals for funding and research papers.

Kalliopi is dedicated to applying her expertise in computational sciences and healthcare informatics to real-world challenges, particularly in the areas of drug safety, eHealth, Real-World Data (RWD) and pharmacovigilance. Her work embodies academic rigor and practical problem-solving, contributing significantly to advancing these critical areas of healthcare.

Panos Bonotis is an engineer in informatics and telecommunications, focusing primarily on healthcare applications. He received his degree from the University of Western Macedonia (UoWM), from the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering in Kozani, and he now works as a Scientific Collaborator at the eHealth Laboratory of the Institute of Applied Biosciences (INAB) at the National Centre for Research and Technological Development (CERTH). At the same time, he is pursuing his doctoral dissertation at UoWM, focusing on user experience in eHealth services and applications. As part of this, he participates in pilot studies and usability studies of healthcare applications in both national and European-funded projects, focusing on evaluating and enhancing user experience (usability, user-friendliness, etc.). Additionally, he supports teaching in courses related to his dissertation topic and supervises students in the completion of their diploma theses. Finally, he participates in various working groups and workshops aimed at promoting and informing about user experience engineering and the latest developments in the field.
